The Oscar nominations were announced this morning. If you would like to see the full list, click on the link. The following films were nominated for Best Picture:
• The Big Short
• Bridge of Spies
• Brooklyn
• Mad Max: Fury Road
• The Martian
• The Revenant
• Room
• Spotlight
The only film that is held by Yocum Library at this time is Mad Max: Fury Road. It is currently checked out, but you can put it on hold if you'd like to see it before Oscar night on Sunday, February 28. Other Berks County libraries also have the film, so you might not have to wait as long as you think if you put it on hold.
The Martian and Bridge of Spies are both finished with their theatrical run here in Berks County; however, nominated films are often brought back into theaters in the weeks prior to the awards presentation. The remaining films are currently running in theaters around Berks County. So if you want to see the films before the Oscars, you have a little over six weeks.
If you’re interested in reading the books that the films were based on, they are available at various Berks County libraries. However, they are popular and most of them are currently out and/or have a list of requests.
