National Ice Cream Day

July 17, 2011 is National Ice Cream Day.

Turkey Hill ice cream factory in Columbia, PA offers tours for the family. Parts of the tour are free but, the interactive tour are charged admission.

The scoop: Open year-round. One local history section is free, but admission to the interactive exhibits (which includes sections on ice cream and iced-tea production) is $11.50 for adults; $9.50 for seniors and kids 5-17; kids 4 and under, free.

At the Turkey Hill Experience in Columbia, Pa., visitors won’t see the factory in action, but can milk a mechanical cow, sit in a milk truck, create an ice cream flavor, study the ice cream making process and taste a sample.
