and Performer Susan Leviton to discuss Women’s Voices: Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song at the Jewish
Cultural Center of Reading
Reading (November 16) –
The Jewish Federation of Reading will host the Commonwealth Speaker and Performer
Susan Leviton’s presentation “Women’s Voices: Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song” at the Jewish
Cultural Center of Reading on Thursday,
December 6 at 2:00 pm. The
presentation is free and open to the public.
“Women’s Voices: Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song” lecture and
discussion offers attendees the opportunity to learn from the performer Susan
Leviton. Ms. Leviton is one of the only
contemporary women reviving the craft of a capella Yiddish singing. In addition to her work as a Commonwealth
Speaker, Ms. Leviton works in the visual arts and has been a featured performer
and teacher at universities, museums, and folk festivals, most frequently to
audiences with no prior exposure to Yiddish
.
This presentation is a program of
the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, sponsored in part by a grant from the
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
