Jewish Cultural Center of Reading

Commonwealth Speaker and Performer Susan Leviton to discuss Women’s Voices:  Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song at the Jewish Cultural Center of Reading

Reading (November 16) – The Jewish Federation of Reading will host the Commonwealth Speaker and Performer Susan Leviton’s presentation “Women’s Voices:  Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song” at the Jewish Cultural Center of Reading on Thursday, December 6 at 2:00 pm.  The presentation is free and open to the public.

“Women’s Voices:  Women’s Lives in Yiddish Song” lecture and discussion offers attendees the opportunity to learn from the performer Susan Leviton.  Ms. Leviton is one of the only contemporary women reviving the craft of a capella Yiddish singing.  In addition to her work as a Commonwealth Speaker, Ms. Leviton works in the visual arts and has been a featured performer and teacher at universities, museums, and folk festivals, most frequently to audiences with no prior exposure to Yiddish
.
This presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, sponsored in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.  PHC inspires people to come together to share a life of learning.  The Jewish Federation of Reading is proud to host this program to further its mission to cultivate a vibrant, healthy Jewish community, inspire greater Jewish identity, and promote deeper understanding and stronger connections between Jews and non-Jews in Reading/Berks County.
