Storm the castle! Great family friendly exhibitions on their way!

A special Family Opening will herald the arrival of these fun and educational exhibitions on Saturday, January 26 — Members only at 10 a.m., and general public at 11 a.m. — with a day of activities including hands-on projects for children and families until 2 p.m. and appearances by the Yocum Institute for Arts Education Teen Theater Ensemble. Regular admission fees apply — Members FREE!

Plus, don't miss the LEGO® Catapult Building Workshop presented by Snapology of Reading on Sunday, January 27, with shows at 12 and 2 p.m. Did you ever want to make your LEGO bricks move? Then we have just the workshop for you. Register your child (age 7 and up) for this 1-hour workshop where children will explore and learn about what it takes to make a working catapult out of LEGO bricks. Class size is limited so reserve your space by e-mailing wendy.koller@readingpublicmuseum.org or by calling 610-371-5850 ex. 223 no later than 1/25/13. $5 per child (paid in advance, please).

Enter the world of the LEGO® kingdom where you, too, can become a master castle builder, using one of the greatest building materials of all time — LEGO bricks! You’ll be immersed in castle life through experiences designed specifically for children and families.

LEGO Castle Adventure gives you the opportunity to test your planning and constructing skills,and is another great opportunity for children and families to learn through play with one of the most-loved toys of all time.

Science & Art

What does Origami have to do with geometry? Why is a worm considered art to some? How is music created from a micro-chip? And how can a nanometer of water become a fun, interactive experience? All these questions and more will be answered in this exhibition created by the Arkansas Discovery Network.You can see, hear and interact with works of art that illustrate how science and art intersect in real life. As you make your way through the exhibit, listen to their inner scientist and indulge you inner artist.

Jelly Belly® Masterpieces of Jelly Bean Art

This unique show includes eight masterpieces of art made entirely from Jelly Belly® jelly beans — each a sweet replica of a classic painting found in some of the world’s most prestigious museums. Each Jelly Belly Art work is approximately four by six feet, and is made with between 9,000 -12,000 Jelly Belly jelly beans.
