The Junior League of Reading - Miller Center February 27th


The Junior League of Reading is pleased to announce the panel members for the public screening of Miss Representation, taking place at 7 p.m. on February 27th at the Miller Center for the Arts - Reading Area Community College. The dynamic panel discussion will immediately follow the screening, invoking dialogue on this important but often overlooked topic of media affecting the health of youth. Dr. E. Michele Ramsey
Dr. E. Michele Ramsey is an Associate Professor of Communication Arts & Sciences and Women's Studies and founded the major in Communication Arts & Sciences at her college. Dr. Ramsey teaches: Public Speaking; Media Literacy; Language, Culture, and Communication; Gender and Communication; Rhetoric of American Horror Films; and Contemporary American Political Rhetoric.

Dr. Ramsey's research interests include representations of gender in the media, women's rights rhetoric, social movement rhetoric, and political rhetoric. She's won a number of awards for her research and teaching, including the following:
-2001 Cheris Kramarae Dissertation Award from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender
-2006 Outstanding Faculty Advising Award
-2008 Outstanding Faculty Service Award
-2009 Curricular Integration Award from the Commission on LGBTQ Equity,
-the 2010 Achieving Woman Award (faculty category) from the Commission on Women

JLR is honored to have Dr. E. Michele Ramsey as part of the panel to provide her perspective on the effect of media on youth.
