Kutztown University´s Rohrbach Library will host a screening of the documentary film "Latinos Beyond Reel: Challenging a Media Stereotype," on March 12, at 5 p.m. in room 100B.
The documentary draws on the insights of Latino scholars, journalists, community leaders, actors, directors and producers to examine the representations of Latinos in U.S. news and entertainment media. What it uncovers is astounding - a pattern of misrepresentation and under-representation that pervades a world where Latinos appear primarily as gangsters, Mexican bandits, harlots, prostitutes, drug dealers and welfare-leeching illegals.
This event is free and open to the public.
