August 2-4 6p.m. Gring's Mill Amphitheater
For the second year, the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department and the Yocum Institute for Arts Education will collaborate to present a free outdoor Shakespeare production in the Gring's Mill Amphitheater from Friday though Sunday at 6 p.m.
This year's play will be the bittersweet comedy "Much Ado About Nothing," directed by Beverly Houck, assistant director of the Yocum Institute. She has assembled a cast of young actors in their teens and 20s to explore the play's themes of rumor and gossip, giving it a contemporary twist.
There will be a special program, "Shakespeare for Kids," at 4 p.m. in the park, during which children can get to know the characters, make masks for the party that they can wear during the show, and learn about Shakespearean insults and compliments.
