Author Tracy Kidder Speaks at PSU Berks Campus

Tracy Kidder, author of "Strength in What Remains", discusses his book, which is the subject of this year's Common Reading Program at Penn State Berks, on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Strength in What Remains is the story of one man’s inspiring journey and of the people who helped him, providing brilliant testament to the power of second changes, the human will, and the endurance of the soul. In this real-life narrative, Kidder tells the story of Deo, a young man who escapes from ethnic violence in Burundi and ends up living homeless in New York City. His will to survive and love of knowledge eventually lead him to Columbia University and then on to medical school and a life devoted to healing. After becoming an American citizen, he returns to Burundi to build a clinic and public health system.
