Celebrate Cinco de Mayo and Mexican Heritage!

Today is Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for the fifth of May) that commemorates the day the Mexican army defeated the French army even though they were smaller and ill-equipped.

In Mexico, the day is observed with political speeches and battle reenactments. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the United States with parades and festivities featuring mariachi music, dancing, and Mexican food.

Want to celebrate? Almost all of the local restaurants, especially those that serve Mexican food, will probably have special events (menu, drinks, music). If you want to continue your celebration on Saturday, May 6, there's a Spring Fiesta with a Latin theme at Jim Dietrich Park in Muhlenberg Township  from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

According to their web site they will have “music, dance, various food vendors, a beer and blended drink area with fireworks topping off the evening at 9:00 pm. There will be pinatas and maybe even a bit of bull riding.”

Share any other events you might know about.
