Singer-guitarist Dan Mergner gives his winning performance Friday at Reading Area Community College's RACC Idols talent competition in the Miller Center for the Arts.
It was an old classic performed by singer-guitarist Dan Mergner that brought down the house Friday night at Reading Area Community College.
Mergner's rendition of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" earned the respiratory-care major top honors in the ninth annual RACC Idols talent competition in the Miller Center for the Arts.
Second place went to chemistry major Sharibel Urena, who performed a medley of classical songs on the piano.
Mergner and Urena took their talents up against six other acts in a contest judged by a team of administrators, faculty and staff.
"It's been very interesting to see how talented our students really are," said Sue Gelsinger, student activities coordinator. "They don't get to showcase it too often."
Both Mergner and Urena will now compete against students from Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Penn State Schuylkill at the Berks Got Talent competition. It will be held April 20 at RACC.
